Early Interceptive Orthodontics
"Early Interceptive Orthodontics" is a treatment philosophy in which treatment is provided in stages. Staging the treatment steps can address orthodontic problems as they develop.
The American Academy of Orthodontics recommends that children should have their first orthodontic evaluation by age seven.
This treatment philosophy started years ago. It was seen that all permanent teeth in children erupted around ages 12 to 13. Permanent teeth had to be often extracted as a result. Modern orthodontic methods, however, strive to avoid removing permanent teeth when possible.
This is accomplished by starting treatment early and taking advantage of the child's facial development. Studies indicate that the long-term results of this "phased treatment" are far more stable. We have several amazing orthodontists in our area whom Dr. Flood refers to.
